If you think this is weird, just take a look at yourselves.

Truman Peyote Live at WMUA →
Check it! Ian over at Friendship Bracelet and Gabe from MYNDBLYNDRZ recorded a few tracks from weirduo Truman Peyote in the production studio down at WMUA. Pretty gnarly.

Interview with the Soft Pack
The Soft Pack is a pretty gnarly band coming out of San Diego. I saw them at CMJ 2008, and they were probably my favorite performance of the week, aside from the one where George Clinton jacked off a microphone stand. They’ve got a new album coming out early next year on Kemado Records (available for pre-order here). I spoke via email with Matt Lamkin, vocalist and guitarist, and Matty...

Albert Murray has said that rock music “obviously has more to do with the intensification of a mood of despair,” than with making people feel good. This often might be the case, but I think the end result is not just to make oneself feel worse. When Iggy sings about having nothing to do, it’s not to make himself feel worse about his boredom, but to make it go away, and to draw...

Tuesday is rock day. Blank Generation airs tonight from 8:00 to 10:00 on 91.1 FM, WMUA in Amherst, and streams at WMUA.org. Spinning new stuff from tUnE-yArDs, Tin Huey, Growlers, and probably a couple tracks each from those sweet new Ghana Special and Golden Hour comps, as well as stuff from Wizzard Sleeve, Fela Kuti, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, and loads more.

Peace & Rhythm: Tyshawn Sorey, Solo Performance... →
Check out the profile on Andujar’s Peace & Rhythm blog, penned by fellow WMUA DJ Glenn Siegel about improvisational drummer and pianist Tyshawn Sorey. Dude’s performing at Bezanson Recital Hall on the UMass Campus this Thursday, and it should be pretty interesting. I’ve gone to both other Solos & Duos performances this semester, and I plan to be at this one, too. Look...

Check out this sweet-ass new video from The Soft Pack! Their self-titled album is set to drop on Kemado February 2nd (you can bet I’ll be on that; the tracks I’ve heard already, “Parasites,” “Answer to Yourself,” and “Down on Lovin’” are all sick).
Stereogum told me that the tracklist is:
01 “C’mon” 02 “Down On...

Blank Generation Tonight
Dudes,
I’m on the radio tonight, at 91.1 MHz (Frequency Modulation, none of that Amplitude Modulation bullshit), and on all the Internets at WMUA.org. Blank Generation tonight features cuts from the Clash, the Yardbirds, Ground Zero, and the Buzzcocks; newer tracks from White Denim, Talk Normal, Cold Cave, and Grooms. That’s just a short sampling; I’ve got two hours of...

Sweet new VHS-recorded Jay Reatard vids on Pitchfork.
I’ll probably never read the thing, but every once in a while they put up a sick performance.
Tune in to WMUA for Earworms tonight
I’m filling in for Sarah’s show, Earworms, tonight from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on WMUA, part of the Experimental/Avant-Garde block. I’ve got a bag full of records, including some Big Black, Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Guitar Wolf, King Crimson, Kraftwerk, Mastodon, Pissed Jeans, Elliot Sharp, Sun Ra, Uzeda, & Wire, so I’ll be pulling cuts...

The Hibachi Stranglers →
I heard “Parking Lot” by the Hibachi Stranglers on a podcast a few weeks ago, and it’s pretty awesomely raw. If you’re into dirty punk (or Mobile, Alabama), I highly recommend you give that song a listen, as well as the other cut on their MySpace. I’m going to see about interviewing these dudes once they finish up their work on a new LP. (Look for that to come...

Matador's Streamin' the new Cold Cave Record →
I’ve been listening to this thang a bit, and I’ve been enjoying it a good deal. Think about a just-slightly less noisy, but more weird, and yet more pop-centric Parts & Labor, and you might be on the right track (Sarah Lipstate, who up until recently was in Parts & Labor, plays on this record too). The dude singin’ sounds like he likes Joy Division.
Check it!
Flywheel Record Sale this Sunday →
I’ve got obligations this Sunday, but I’m making it my duty to get to this sale. And so should you. Flywheel’s so close to being back in business; let’s give ‘em some support.
Plus, records. So, I don’t know what keeps anyone from this.

Everything about Shonen Knife Screams "Internet... →
I finally located WMUA’s review-copy of Shonen Knife’s new album so I could review it (sounds like Shonen Knife), and the album cover looks like it was made using the very first “make your own CD cover art!” program.
But I figured “well, maybe they just aren’t putting that much effort into a CD, since everyone’s focusing on digital release now.”...
Blank Generation Tonight
Thanks to all who pledged last week during WMUA’s fund drive!
This week, I got some Zolar X, Pretty Things, Battles, and Ground Zero, as far as older releases go. And where new releases are concerned, I’ve got some Boneless, and I Am The Dot, who you might remember from this here blog, and I’ve got some more stuff planned that I DON’T EVEN KNOW YET! Tune in and be...
