At this year’s WMUA Fund Drive, Erika of Expressway to Yr Skull offered to make a mix CD for anyone who pledged during her show, fit to their specifications. She’s done this before, and it was of course way cool (that’s just how she rolls), but this time, she got a huge response. So, she’s had to make a lot of way-cool comps. How does this relate to you? She’s posting them to her blog.
I spent most of today listening to Devil’s Wife Arrived Today, which was meant to focus around “things that sound like the Cramps, that aren’t the Cramps.” That sounds awesome, and it is.
Next up on my queue of comps from Erika is Lose You Against the Light, which she said is a mix for a 73-year-old guy who told her “the weirder, the better.” I’ve not given it a spin yet, but it should be gnarly.
I pledged on her show and asked her for a math-rock mix, but under the stipulation that it include no Shellac. “The Clock’s Unwound” was the result, and it’s awesome. It’s not up there yet, but I have a feeling it will be.
Basically, you need to check out Erika’s blog and her show of the same name on WMUA, moving soon to Wednesday nights, 8 to 10.
