Video with 2 notes

This looks really cool. Of the groups featured in the film, I’m familiar only with Nissenenmondai, but pretty much everything that appears in this trailer has something interesting going on with it. There’s a world premiere happening Friday, October 29th at the Asia Society Museum in New York.

As they describe it:

“The film is about underground music in Tokyo and features performances and interviews by: Shugo Tokumaru, d.v.d, Nisennenmondai, Tenniscoats, PARA (ex-Boredoms), Sexy-Synthesizer, D.M.B.Q, Sajjanu, KIRIHITO, Optrum, Samm Bennett, W. David Marx, Tokyo Pinsalocks and many many more.”

Ex-Boredoms? Now I’m even more excited.

Hey, remember that Fucked Up song with the girl from Duchess Says? →

Well, here it is, minus that girl, and with Zola Jesus instead. I like the changes, but I still loved Annie-Claude Deschênes’ growling vocals on that live version. Ah well, still super awesome.

Here’s my tweet about it:

Just listened to that new Fucked Up song while pooping. Highly recommended for an exciting and dramatic “hardcore pooping” experience.

Jackson Bennet - Little Brain

I figured I should take a break from reading Preacher and listening to Didjits records to fill you in on some more stuff about which you should know.

Jackson Bennett’s got a SoundCloud page of all the stuff he’s gotten together this year so far, and previous to that, he’s recorded a record called Buoy, which you can find here. My favorite cut so far is “Little Brain,” but maybe that’s because I’ve been listening to a lot of Raunch Hands and Lazy Cowgirls lately… I might just be in that kind of mood. Not that they’re that aurally similar, but there’s a certain feel to the guitar that appeals to me in a similar way. Some of the other sounds you’ll find of Bennett’s are a bit more digital, and that’s cool too, but there’s something about the more organic feel to “Little Brain” that I think taps into whatever it is I really, really like about rock music.

I.S.O. featuring I Am The Dot - Solaris Bella

The new collaboration between I.S.O. and I Am The Dot (previously featured on this blog here), can be added to your list of watery ambient pop music you’ll play on repeat while lying in your bed, staring at the ceiling, instead of going out and getting work done.  Uh… wait, that’s my list.
