Hey, remember that bunch of posts I did on intelligent thugs Accordion Crimes a while back? Jeez, I hope they’re cool with me calling them thugs, by the way, since this is the second time I’ve done it, and I’ve never even met them.
Anyway, if you do remember those posts, you know they fucking rule.* If you don’t, go check them out. Back? Great. So, you want more, and you can get more, and the way to get more is to pledge on their Kickstarter. They’re making a full-length, and if the stuff I’ve heard them do in the past is any indicator, it’s going to knock your block off. They’re doing all those neat fundraiser-type things for varying pledge-levels, so even if you’re a busted sack of crap like me, you can get something awesome outta them for not that much money.
And if you’re a bit more gifted monetarily, you can force them to cover a song of your choosing. Think about having that kind of power. Just imagine it. If I could, I’d have them cover some awesome/dumb shit like Billy Childish, the Minutemen, or “Roundabout,” but, at least for now, I’ll have to leave that for folks like you, who have a spare $250 to huck their way.* Now, how much to get them to come play New York?
So get over there and pledge, and reserve yourself some fancy colored vinyl in the process. And let me know when you do, so I’ll feel like I’ve done something with myself! See ya later.
*If you don’t like Accordion Crimes, I don’t even know why you’re here. Hit the bricks.
**Heads up, potential robbers of An Uncontrollable Urge: I have about that much, total, in my bank account right now. So, better luck next time. Hey, what do I have to hide? Oh, and by the way, if I can afford to drop some bills on this, so can you, you cheap piece of shit wonderful and reasoned individual.

Accordion Crimes/Lion Sized Split 7” (Cash Cow Production)

Here we go. Are Accordion Crimes the only people to be featured on this blog three times? Eh, probably. I’m not going to go through the pain-in-the-ass search process to figure that out, but I’ll just say it’s true, and I’ll move on to say that it’s because Accordion Crimes are the sound of fucking mathematic immolation.
They’ve put out a new split 7-inch with fellow Denverites (Denverians?) Lion Sized, and I’m this close to deciding that from now on, I’ll only check out bands that do splits with Accordion Crimes. Both sides of this slab pound out heavy, aggressive thug-rock for the intelligent man-or-monster that are rivaled only by each other.
Oh, by the way, this anger-artifact was mastered by Bob Weston. You know, Bob Weston? But the version of Accordion Crimes’ “Academy” you hear on this page was not. You can only hear the Weston-mastered version on the vinyl, which, by the way, can be found here or here, or at an Accordion Crimes or Lion Sized show near you. No digital version available, vinyl only. Scrape some needles.

A Higher Quality Version of This (self-released)

Y’know, I like wimpy music as much as the next guy, and I have and will continue to feature it on this blog, but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t be totally fine with listening to angular, noisy math-rock like Accordion Crimes for the rest of my life. I really dug all five songs on the EP A Higher Quality Version of This, so it was kind of tough to pick one to sample here. ”Forecast,” probably the most aggressive track on the CD is sure to see a lot of play in my apartment, and if I ever do another rock radio show, I’ll make sure it gets a spin. But a cut like “Vacations,” with all it’s strumming below the bridge (or above the nut?) is just difficult enough to make it on to my current program. I think “Lakota” does a good job of splitting the difference, so that’s what you’ll find at the top of this piece.
Make no mistake about it - this is difficult music. But that’s what rock’s supposed to be.
Hmm… now, who else describes themselves as a minimalist rock trio?
